Jogyesa Temple has taught Buddhism for over 100 years in the heart of Seoul,Recently it has added the “temple life program th its many endeavors toinform the world far and wide of the spiritual value of Buddhism. This program will provide an opportunity for participants to converse directily with monks living as Buddhist practitioners and to directly experience Buddhism as a spiritual culture. * Jogye-sa’s temple tour program is offered in English. Temple Etiquette | This includes putting your palms together (habjang &chasu), Main Hall observances, courtesy toward the monks, etc as well as the purpose of living in a temple and the behavior and attitude in carrying out temple activities. |
Making the Lotus Lantern | You will be making a lantern in the shape of a lotus. The lotus symbolizes the Buddha’s law and the lantern symbolizes wisdom. The lotus lantern symbolizes wisdom attained through the laws of Buddha and turning on the lantern symbolizes the letting go of the immature ways one’s previous lifestyle. |
Chamseon (Zen, meditation explanation) | Through the “innocent focus and observation” of Seon or Zen Meditation one will get rid of inner anguish and attain truth. This activity involves meditative breathing, sitting posture, and bringing up a topic (Hwadu). |
Meeting with Buddhist Monk | This will be a time where you can meet and have a conversation with a temple monk and ask him questions you have about life. You may ask about things you’ve never been able to answer and have a time to share your thoughts with the monk. This time will be a milestone of your new life. |
