  1. The DMZ tour is a chilling, yet great reminder of the status of South Korea with its relation to its neighbor to the North. Though the third tunnel walk is a bit of a hike to get down into the tunnel, it is still amazing to see just how far the North Korean’s had come in their attempts to create infiltration tunnels into the South. The tour is something that every visitor to Korea should experience to further understand the reality of the relationship between North and South Korea and the desire of the people to see the Nation reunited one day.

  2. This is definitely a must-see place. Can’t really call it an attraction as technically it is a war zone. Anything can happen. We were taken to the Infiltration Tunnel dug by the North Koreans to invade South Korea. The tunnel itself is quite a climb. First you have to walk down about 250m on an 11 degree incline. We had to wear hard hats as some portions of the tunnel were really low. It was also wet and pretty cold. We arrived at a point where we could see through a peep hole the North Korean side of the tunnel. Scary to think that there may be numerous of these tunnels around. The South Koreans have already discovered four tunnels. We could also see North Korea from a lookout point. Worth a visit.

  3. I booked the Half Day DMZ tour with Seoul City Tours ahead of time. They picked me up at my hotel on schedule (around 7:30am and we finished around 2pm). Our tour guide was Sunny, and she was very entertaining and fun to listen to. I normally don’t like tours or learning about history, but she really made it interesting, easy to understand, and fun. On the half day tour, there were about 4 stops (?) and at each one there were toilets and also shops to buy gifts. My only complaint was that it would have been nice to have an extra 5 to 10 min per stop, as I was always having to watch the time and just barely made it back to the bus on time. I would have liked to have more of a chance to buy a drink, have a snack, or look leisurely around the shop or the area where we stopped. Be prepared to leave your bag in a locker at the stop where you go down into the third infiltration tunnel. (Its free) Make sure you have a bottle of water or you can buy one in the gift shop after. It was a bit of an incline going down and a good workout to walk back up again. You can turn around at any point.

At the end of the tour they took us to a duty free shop, and some people went ahead and left the tour from there. I was interested in buying Amethyst jewelry (I had heard other tours stopped at an Amethyst factory or shop but our tour wasn’t) and Sunny was kind enough to go out of her way to take me to an Amethyst shop and then make sure I knew how to get back to my hotel. Sunny was very friendly and passionate about her job and thanks to her, it was a really nice day. I would definitely book a tour again and hope to get Sunny for my guide. Thank you Sunny!!!
